Alex joins Ocean Sails with a vast range of sailmaking and canvas experience. Born and raised in New England, the sea is home for Alex. She studied marine science at the University of Maine. One of Alex’s semesters was aboard the 88’ Schooner Ocean Star learning oceanography, seamanship and navigation, it was then she knew sailing would be part of her life. Alex started out as an apprentice at Anson Sailmakers in New Hampshire doing sail repairs and canvas, after two years she moved on to a bigger loft joining Doyle Sails in Salem, Massachusetts where she became proficient in building all types of sails from dinghies, super yachts to precise racing sails. She was involved in building the sails for Maltese Falcon, Black Pearl and Sailing Yacht A. Alex then joined Doyle sailmakers in New Zealand where she learned to specifically build spinnakers. Alex has recently completed her USCG Master 50 Ton Captain’s license and STCW. With her love of sailing, sailmaking and the sea Alex is a huge asset to our Ocean Sails team, we are thrilled to have her on board.
